Dr. Carlota Solé, who is currently emeritus professor at the Department of Sociology at UAB, founded the research Group on Immigration and Ethnic Minorities (GEDIME) in 1989. Since then, it has become a reference at national and international level regarding topics such as the dynamics of migration, transnational practices in migratory contexts, and social inclusion of ethnic minorities from a sociological perspective.
Since its foundation, GEDIME is part of the Department of Sociology at UAB. The AGAUR (Generalitat de Catalunya) acknowledged the consolidation of the research group, awarding SGR grants (Support to Research Groups) in 2005 and 2009. In 2009, GEDIME was one of the research groups founding the interdisciplinary center CER-Migracions (Centre d'Estudis i Recerca de Migracions), which counts with researchers from different universities (UAB-UB). In 2014 and 2017 CER-Migracions also received SGR grants.
